Defining Mindset

Some consider the mind to mean the brain but I consider the mind to mean that part of your spirit that thinks and then expresses that which is either good or evil. A mindset then would be an individual’s fixed way of thinking, feeling and behaving. The mind is mankind’s spiritual thinking faculty and it exists after the death of the body (Luke 16:19-31). God will judge the unjust mindset on the judgement day (2nd Peter 2:9)

Cause and effect of negative Mindset

Negative mindsets in human beings started in Adam and Eve because they transgressed the Divine law of God. It plunged the whole human race into sin, shame and death (Genesis 3:17-19). All human beings inherited Adam’s sinful and corrupt mindset (1 Corinthians 15:21-22; Psalms 51:5) with the death penalty. However, God provided a way of escape through Jesus Christ who paid the death penalty on our behalf, when he died on the cross. He was buried and rose again, so that sinful minds maybe renewed (St John 3:16; Romans 6:22-23).

A Corrupt v Good Mindset

A corrupt mindset speaks of people who have given themselves over to vile affections contrary to God’s moral standards (Romans 1:26-32). An example of a corrupt mindset would be one addicted to pornographic material. Those with such mindsets include murderers, liars, adulterers and witches (Revelations 21:8). This mindset is extremely selfish and is centred on the manipulation of others for its own gain, regardless of the pain to others. It is characterised by treacherousness without integrity (1 John 2:15-17). A good mindset speaks of one delivered from the above by becoming a born again Christian and receiving the mind of Christ. This mind is life and peace as it enables one to live morally and spiritually (Romans 8:6).

How to renew your Mindset

God has made a way of escape from the corrupt mindset, which is against the moral code of principles that God requires us to live by. This mindset exalts itself against all that God is and stands for (Ephesians 4:17; Colossians 2:18).

You can do this by receiving God’s words, by faith into your heart (Hebrews 8:10; 10:16; 11:6). Jesus died, was buried and rose again for your justification, forgiveness of your sins, and the renewing of your mind so that you may love God.

As an addicted gambler, I lived selfishly despite being married with three children. I sought life and satisfaction but found misery and contention. However, 27 years ago God renewed my mind and gave me a new mindset. God delivered me from my treacherous mindset and created in me a heart of integrity to serve him and my generation. Renew your mind by being born again. This consists of faith towards God, confession, repentance, water baptism in the name of Jesus Christ for the removal of your sins, be filled with the Holy Spirit and live a dedicated Christian lifestyle (Acts 2:28; Hebrews 6:1-2).

The Benefits of a Renewed Mindset

Through your faith and obedience, God will transform you by the renewal of your mind so that you can do what is good, perfect and acceptable to God (Romans 12:2). You become a new person in Christ Jesus, your old lifestyle is passed away (2 Corinthians 5:17). Consequently, you can love and worship God with all your heart, soul, strength and mind. You can also love your neighbor as your self (Luke 10:27). A new mindset will not give vent to evil thoughts and actions to your self or others. Additionally, you will not do violence to anyone because love does no evil. Therefore, genuine love towards God and people fulfils all that God requires of us.

Regardless of what you’ve done, Jesus loves you and offers you a new and living way of life. Jesus is knocking at the door of your heart. Open up to him, he create in you a new mindset. God will make a difference in your life if you let Him. You may consider that life is good and you are in need of nothing. However, without God in your life there is still a void, an emptiness that no material things can fill. Why not give God a chance in your life? – You will never be the same again.

“… I knew my life had to Change”

I came to the Lord bruised, battered, unworthy, ashamed, selfish, unloved, and broken; not knowing who I was. One of eight children I was brought up by a single mother so I knew hardship from a very young age. I found myself pregnant at the age of 15 and the struggle continued as I was left raising my son on my own.

Later on I got married and had four more children. During my life I have suffered both physical and mental abuse; the mental abuse caused the worse damage, as it left me feeling unworthy and broken. I was so insecure and depressed that I took drugs to shut the world out.

For several years I was out of control, which resulted in me attempting to take my own life. I knew then that my life had to change, so I asked the Lord to come into my life and help. I had an experience with the Lord, which I can only explain as unbelievable. It took that experience to make me believe that there was a God and I haven’t turned back since.

Since that day, I have been truly blessed. The Lord took me out of my situation, rid me of the darkness I was living in and gave me a new life.

To understand more about God I enrolled on the BIBS foundation course, which opened up my eyes to a whole new world. I have never read the Bible and it was a good opportunity to learn about the Lord in an environment where everyone had the same aim. I don’t know everything but I am progressing on the course.

I know who I am now; the Lord has been so good to me. I own my own home, I have a fantastic job and I’m studying accountancy. I have the Lord to thank for where I am today.

The Lord is waiting for anyone that will reach out and ask for help.
